WHAT is ultrasound?

Ultrasound imaging is a method of acquiring information about the inside of the body using high frequency sound waves. Ultrasound imaging is captured in real-time and can show the size, shape and texture of internal organs and blood vessels.

HOW is it performed?

For some ultrasound scans, patient preparation is required. Detailed instructions of how to prepare for your scan will be given at the time of booking.
You may be asked to change into a gown before your scan.
During the scan, you will be asked to lie, usually face up, on the ultrasound bed.
A gel is applied to the skin and an ultrasound probe is moved over the gel to acquire the images.

WHEN do I get my results?

After your scan we will provide you with a verbal report.

You will also receive a written/ or emailed report.  Ultrasound images can be transferred on to USB for referrers if required.

We do not routinely send reports back to referrers, however we can send back if requested by patients.
