How does Veracity (new generation NIPT) work?
During pregnancy, fetal DNA releases form the placenta to the mother’s blood stream and circulates along with her own DNA.
Veracity is a new generation non-invasive prenatal test that will accurately measure the fetal cell free DNA (cffDNA) in the mother’s blood to test for fetal aneuploidies.
During your appointment:
• You will be scanned to date your pregnancy (EDD)
• A nurse or sonographer will collect a sample of blood from the mother’s arm during their appointment at Mourne Scan Clinic.
This sample will then be sent to the state-of-the-art laboratory for analysis. New generation, analytic and bioinformatic technologies are used.
Results will then be provided to the clinic in 10 working day
Mourne Scan Clinic will provide the patient with a follow-up appointment date to provide results.
When can I take the Veracity test (new generation NIPT)?
When it comes to your baby’s health, accuracy is crucial. One of the advantages of Veracity is that you can take the test as early as the 10th week of pregnancy.
The Veracity test (new generation NIPT) is a robust and reliable test and can be used for singleton, twin and IVF pregnancies.
How accurate and safe is Veracity?
Veracity directly tests fetal DNA; therefore it provides the highest accuracy >99% in detection of the most common fetal aneuploidies.
It has been designed to perform with the highest standards of sensitivity and accuracy. The test is simple and straightforward.
More importantly, it is not associated with any risk of miscarriage.

What is a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT)
A non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT) is a test taken by a pregnant woman that will screen for genetic conditions that may be present in the fetus before birth.
The main benefit of Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing is that it is performed very early during pregnancy (10 weeks) and is more accurate that traditional screening tests currently in practice.
There are many NIPTs to check for genetic conditions such as Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Edwards Syndrome (Trisomy 18) and Patau Syndrome (Trisomy 13)
Sex chromosome (X & Y) aneuploidies (chromosomal changes).
VERAgene is the only comprehensive NIPT that can simultaneously screen for:
• Common aneuploidies
• Specific clinically significant microdeletions
• 100 single gene (monogenic diseases)
Aneuploidies such as Down Syndrome are screened by many other NIPT and may be offered in NHS setting.
However, VERAgene offers microdeletions and single gene diseases that cannot be detected by another means prenatally.
Biochemical and ultrasound signs for these disorders are often not possible. In addition to this, the disorders are not associated with maternal age therefore will not be picked up by pre-natal tests aimed at a particular age group.
The 100 monogenic diseases screened by VERAgene are often very severe and therefore have a significant impact on quality of life.
These monogenic diseases may manifest as congenital anomalies, developmental delays, hearing loss and blindness. If these genetic conditions are not picked up before birth, a lot of specific testing will be necessary after birth instead of targeted treatment.
What is VERAgene (Comprehensive NIPT)?
VERAgene was introduced by NIPD Genetics in 2018 and screened for aneuploidies, microdeletions and 50 single gene diseases of autosomal recessive inheritance.
In additions to this, in January 2020. VERAgene was then expanded to screen for aneuploidies, microdeletions and 100 single gene diseases of autosomal recessive and X-linked inheritance.
VERAgene provides a comprehensive picture a pregnancy using a single test. One of the main benefits of VERAgene is that it is the only non-invasive prenatal test that can simultaneously screen for aneuploidies, microdeletions and single gene diseases
How does VERAgene (comprehensive NIPT) work?
What will the test involve?
During pregnancy cell-free fetal DNA is released from the placenta and circulates in the mother’s blood along with her own cell-free DNA. This important discovery let to the development of non-invasive prenatal tests (NIPT).
Cell-free DNA is isolated from the mother’s blood and is subsequently examined for aneuploidies and microdeletions.
In addition to this, the paternal DNA is analysed for any potential genetic mutations.
During your appointment you will be offered an ultrasound scan to date your pregnancy. The VERAgene test can be taken from 10 weeks gestation.
During the test procedure in Mourne Scan Clinic, a nurse or sonographer will take a blood sample from the mother’s arm.
This will be subsequently sent to the state-of-the-art laboratory for assessment.
A buccal swab (this is a simple swab of the inside of the mouth) will be taken from the father.

What happens at a Panorama test?
This is a non-invasive prenatal test that involves a simple blood test to find out the likelihood of your baby having a particular genetic condition.
How accurate is the Panorama gender test?
The test is based off fetal DNA and the margin for error is very small. The test has more than a 99% accuracy rate.
What is a Panorama gender test?
Gender determination is included in the Panorama blood test taken from the mother.
How long does it take for Panorama test results?
Test results will take between 7-14 days depending on Bank Holidays.
Why do parents get a Panorama test?
Panorama test is a non-invasive genetic prenatal test that screens for genetic conditions. It can be taken early in pregnancy and has no effect on the baby or mother.
