Consultant-Led Breast Assessment Service for
Women under 40
The service brings together a multidisciplinary team including a
Consultant Breast Surgeon, Consultant Radiologist and Specialist Breast Nurse.
The service has been developed for women under 40 who have noticed a breast change and require specialist clinical assessment.
Symptoms may include a new breast lump or swelling, persistent or unexplained breast pain, nipple changes or discharge, skin changes, or another change that is unusual for the individual.
Specialist Breast Assessment for Younger Women
Breast assessment for younger women can differ from that provided to older age groups.
The new service provides patients with access to specialist clinical expertise, with each woman assessed according to her individual symptoms and clinical requirements.
Where appropriate, breast imaging can form part of the assessment, with the Consultant Radiologist working alongside the Consultant Breast Surgeon and Specialist Breast Nurse to provide a coordinated approach to care. An ultrasound guided biopsy can also be provided during your appointment if it’s deemed necessary.
The aim is to provide women with clear information, specialist advice and an appropriate pathway for any further investigation or management that may be required.
Under 40 and noticed a change in your breast?
Breast changes can happen at any age. While many breast symptoms have a benign cause, a new or unexplained change should be properly assessed.
You should seek medical advice if you notice:
- A new lump or swelling
- Persistent or unexplained breast pain
- Changes to the nipple
- Changes to the skin or appearance of the breast
- Any other change that is unusual for you
